How to use Maxitweet

Maxitweet is ideal for sending messages that are too long to fit into the 140 character limit set by Twitter. The most unique and useful aspect of Maxitweets is that there is no need for links to other websites: the tweet appears directly on Twitter or Twitter clients.

• Simply type your tweet and compress by clicking the  Level 1-10  buttons. Check the counters to see how many characters you have saved.

If you are happy with the look of your tweet but it is still over 140 character:

• Check the txt box and click a level from  1-10  again.

TXT compression translates certain words in your tweet into Txt language. You can undo the change by un-checking the box or keep only those suggestions you like.

• When you are happy with the result, click send to Twitter.
You will be taken to the Twitter home page. If you are currently signed in, the tweet automatically appears, ready to send.

Using Txt

txtChecking the Txt box abbreviates certain words in your tweet into txt language: UR = you are, 2nite = tonight and plz = please. We have also included some picture symbols, like for love and for plane.
Unchecking restores your original tweet - or you can edit and keep only the abbreviations you like.

Make sure to click   Level 1-10    after checking the txt box.

About Unicode

Did you know..

.. that Unicode has grown from 7000 characters in 1991 to over 100,000 today, and is still being expanded?

Maxitweet uses Unicode characters, which are fully supported by Twitter and the major Twitter clients. You may already have seen some of these as symbols in tweets, for example ✰ ❤ ☀ ♫【ツ】. Unicode offers many thousands of characters. Maxitweet symbols are chosen from all kinds of languages and scripts to be compatible with users' systems and to minimise the character count. An example:
" lions " (5 characters) becomes " lю㎱ "(3 characters). It uses the physics symbol for nanosecond and the Cyrillic letter "yu", written ю .

If you are not seeing the symbols and characters displayed correctly on your screen, read the article below: Can Maxitweet be read on all computers?

Maxitweet employs the UTF-8 Unicode implementation. For more on UTF-8 read wikipedia.org/UTF-8

Can Maxitweets be read on all computers?

Over 99% of computers in use have Unicode compatible browsers and fonts installed, and modern computers are capable of displaying a large range of symbols and characters.
All modern operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux as well as browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Google Chrome handle most Unicode characters effortlessly.
  • Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista are based on Unicode, and some Unicode support has been included in Microsoft Windows since Windows 95.
  • Unicode support has been included in Mac OS since Mac OS 8.5.

Some older systems display Unicode subsets that omit some characters. This is almost always caused by one of two things:
  1. An older browser version
  2. Incorrect font settings
1. The Web Browser
Usually all that is required is to upgrade the web browser to a more recent version. The following browsers are fully Unicode compatible: Here are the links to recent versions of your favorite browser :

explorerInternet Explorer IE8  firefoxFirefox FF 3.5
safariSafari
4  opera Opera 9  google chromeGoogle Chrome

You may want to go to the Page menu (Explorer) or View menu (Firefox, Opera, Safari) to check that Encoding... is set to either default or UTF-8.

If you are still not seeing the full range of characters, check for:

2. Incorrect font settings.

[rarely a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OSX]

For Windows XP, getting additional languages activated is as follows:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional Options and Language Options.
In the Languages tab, check the Supplemental language support options.

For Windows 2000, getting additional languages installed is as follows:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional Options.
In the General tab, check supplementary languages.

Full fonts:
If you have Microsoft Office 2000 or newer, you can get the Arial Unicode MS font, which is the most complete. If it is not already installed, insert the Office CD, and do a custom install. Choose Add or Remove Features. Click the (+) next to Office Tools, then International Support, then the Universal Font icon, and choose Arial Unicode MS.

For those not using Microsoft Office, there is the free, the open source Gnu Freefont.

maxitweeting from iPhone

Apple
is adding multi-lingual support for iPhone in a steadily growing number of countries. iPhone 3.0 displays all maxitweets compressed at the lower levels but misses a few from the heavier compression setting.
We expect the iPhone Unicode character sets to be expanded in future versions, as is gradually the case with new versions of all browsers, operating systems and Twitter clients.

iphoneMaxitweet is compatible with iPhone and many other mobile phones.

One thing to remember is that the Twitter mobile interface, unlike the standard interface, does not automatically place the tweet in the Twitter update box.

standardWhat you need to do, after clicking Update , is go to the new (Twitter) window that iPhone has now opened, finger-scroll to the bottom and click "standard". You will now see your maxitweet appear.
