Why Maxitweet?
There is nothing wrong with the 140 character limit on Twitter. In fact, this limit defines and shapes the very nature
of Twitter as a communications platform.
Yet for most Twitter users there comes a moment when 140 characters is not enough. Think
of retweets, recipes, poems, quotations, instructions, technical explanations, and many other messages that take
up a bit more room.
Spreading the message over several tweets feels unnatural and is generally frowned upon - so that
is not really an option.
Maxitweet is designed for those occasions.
- The maxitweet is perfectly readable, without excessive abbreviations
- There is no need to link to a URL where the rest of the tweet can be read
- Tweet up to 180-200 characters, plus an option to convert to Txt.
What does "Use Txt" do?
Checking the Txt
box abbreviates certain words in your tweet into txt language:UR = you are, 2nite = tonight and plz = please.
We have also included some picture symbols, like ❤ for love and ✈ for
plane. The counter will show you that you have shaved a few more characters off your tweet.
Unchecking restores your original tweet - or you can edit and keep only the abbreviations you like.
Make sure to click Levels 1-10 after checking
the txt box.
Do maxitweets display correctly on all computers?
Maxitweet uses Unicode characters which are fully supported by Twitter. Almost all computers
in use have Unicode compatible browsers and fonts installed.
A small number of older computers still use limited Unicode subsets that do not display certain characters properly.
You can read more about how to deal with this in our Unicode article.

Who uses Maxitweet?
There is a rapidly growing number of Twitter accounts making use of Maxitweet. One of the
most entertaining is @Limerik. Limericks
are nearly alwasy over 140 characters but they are a perfect size for Maxitweet. "The Limerick packs laughs anatomical
- in space that is quite economical".
The limericks tweeted are mostly traditional, clever and very funny. Highly recommended. Here is one taster:
Can I make changes to the compressed tweet?
Yes.
If there is a character that doesn't look right in the preview box - just replace it with a normal letter. Keep
an eye on the counter so you don't go over 140 in this compressed tweet. Now click Update. |
